Two paramedics stabbed while answering call at house in Wolverhampton
A man has been arrested after two paramedics were stabbed during a call-out to a home in Wolverhampton, said police.
Emergency services were called to the property in Stephens Close, in the Ashmore area of the city, at around 12.15pm on Monday following concerns over the welfare of a man. Shortly after arriving at the scene, two paramedics were stabbed.
A witness said she heard ‘a blood-curdling scream’ after the paramedics went in the house, while neighbours said they heard the paramedics screaming: ‘Please help us, he’s got a knife, he’s got a knife’ as they were attacked.
Colleagues rushed to the scene to treat both paramedics along with a man who was Tasered by police. The paramedics were taken to hospital for further treatment but it was not immediately clear what condition they are currently in.

West Midlands Police confirmed a suspect has been arrested.
Next-door-neighbour Anita Millard, 65, said a man lived alone at the property, and it had been his elderly mother who had first raised concerns for his welfare after he failed to answer the door.
She described how two paramedics arrived, along with two police officers, before they managed to gain entry by removing a door panel with a screwdriver borrowed from a neighbour.
Mrs Millard said: ‘The police asked the man’s mother to step back and then the girl paramedic went in, followed by the other medic.
‘Then all I heard was a blood-curdling scream. He had two knives – I’ve never seen anything like it.’
Mrs Millard, who has lived in the close for five years, added: ‘The male paramedic then came backwards out the house and he shouted into his radio “help, help, we’ve both been stabbed”.
‘Then he pushed the female paramedic backwards towards the side gate, and away from it all.
‘The guy was stood in the porch holding these knives. Then the police came in and shouted “Taser” and then they tasered him. It was like something off the TV.’
One woman, who wished to remain anonymous, said: ‘It was terrifying, I heard the screams from what must have been the paramedics.
‘They were shouting “help us” and repeatedly saying “he’s got a knife, he’s got a knife”.
‘It was all a blur and happened so fast but I’ll never forget those screams… It’s the stuff of nightmares.’
Another resident added: ‘I was sitting on my front steps with my daughter when it happened. I saw the police and ambulance trying to get in. It took them a while.
‘I heard a scream from one of the ambulance workers I think. It was a loud scream. I thought something terrible must’ve happened.
‘The next thing I saw was when they were carried out on stretchers. Once they got in he must have stabbed them straight away.
‘I’m still quite shocked. You don’t expect something like that to happen where you live.’
In a statement, West Midlands Ambulance Service said: ‘Three additional ambulances, two Midlands Air Ambulances and the West Midlands Care Team attended the scene along with three paramedic officers.
‘The two members of staff, both paramedics, have been treated at the scene by doctors and paramedics and have been taken to hospital for further treatment.
‘A man who was Tasered by police officers at the scene has also been treated by ambulance staff.’
