Man who killed children’s author Helen Bailey charged with murder of first wife
A man jailed for life for murdering popular children’s author Helen Bailey has been charged with murdering his first wife.
Ian Stewart, 59, went to prison in 2017 for the murder of millionaire Helen Bailey, his fiancée, after dumping her body in a cesspit below her home in Royston, Hertfordshire.
But the killer appeared today at St Albans Crown Court charged with the murder of his wife Diane six years previously.
Diane, 47, died on 25 June 2010 at the couple’s home in Bassingbourn, Cambridgeshire.
At the time she was thought to have died from natural causes following an epileptic fit.
A re-investigation into her death began after Ian Stewart was convicted in 2017 of murdering Helen Bailey in 2016.
She is the author of the Electra Brown series of books.
Mr Stewart faces a plea hearing on September 21.
